Dimitris Assimakis is a partner in the Global Corporate Group of the international law firm Reed Smith, in Athens. Specialising in power and gas, energy infrastructure, renewable energy, and clean technologies, Dimitris provides expert counsel on regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, project financing, capital markets, and privatisation transactions.

Boasting over 25 years of extensive experience, Dimitris has represented a wide array of Greek and international clients, including private and state-owned companies, as well as financial institutions investing in or providing financial support to businesses in Greece. His academic background includes a law degree from the University of Athens and a master’s degree (LLM) from the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). Dimitris became a qualified lawyer in 1995 and is a registered member of the Athens Bar Association.

Prior to joining Reed Smith, Dimitris held roles at the European Parliament, the European Commission, a prominent Greek legal firm, and an international law firm in Athens. He is a member of various professional associations, such as the Athens Bar Association, the Greek Energy Lawyers Association, the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (ELETAEN), and a supporting member of the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies (HELAPCO).

Highly regarded for his outstanding contributions to the field, Dimitris is consistently recognised as one of Greece’s top energy lawyers by leading legal directories, including Chambers & Partners, the Legal 500, and IFLR 1000.

Some of Dimitris’ recent involvements in notable transactions within the Greek solar sector include the sale and contracting of a 204 MWp PV project in the Kozani region, the acquisition of a 2.1 GW PV projects portfolio under development in various locations across Greece, the incorporation of a joint venture between a major Greek energy company and a prominent German power utility for the development of a 2 GW PV projects portfolio in northwest Greece, the sale of a 700 MWp PV project in central Greece, the acquisition, financing, and construction of a 106 MWp PV projects portfolio in the Larissa and Kilkis regions, the sale of a 267 MWp PV projects portfolio in central Greece, and the financing of a 550 MWp PV project in the Ptolemaida region.
